Call for Papers for Regular Issues
Asian Business & Management (Palgrave Macmillan)
Editor: Harukiyo Hasegawa
Asia's place in the world economic order today has been driven by the dynamic interaction of global capital and regional and local forces. The rapid growth of China and India and the impact of this on other Asian economies are among the issues that require scholarly scrutiny. Asia's socio-economic conditions are patently different from those of the West: a re-examination of both functional Anglo-American approaches and the ‘Asian values model’ are called for.
Asia offers good grounds for the study of business and management. Currently, the leading journals in the field approach Asia from the outside, as onlookers and commentators. In contrast, Asian Business & Management aims to create a new critical forum for the academic community by focusing upon Asia and Asian-based research and by encouraging the interaction of Asian academics and those from beyond the region.
Just as importantly, and unlike other journals, ABM seeks to encourage the awareness of a social and ethical dimension to the study of business and management in Asia. The journal welcomes papers exploring aspects of the peace/democracy spectrum, political economy, culture/ethics, environment, law/legislation, gender, labour movement, alternative business models, co-operativism and community in relation to business and management issues as they affect Asia and its societies and peoples.
ABM has to date focused on East Asia, but its remit also covers South and South-East Asia. Our major areas of interest include marketing, corporate governance, strategy, organisation, technology (IT), production systems, employment (inc. HRM), grass-roots economic activity such as local co-operatives, social forces modifying business behaviour and industrial relations. The journal aims to cover in addition aspects of Asian business management in action beyond the region, as in Asian businesses in other continents, and also aspects of foreign management practice within Asia.
