Therefore, the purpose of this special issue is to bring together some of the brightest minds around the whole area of CSR to provide a comprehensive overview of the following topics:

- Critical papers exploring relationships between profit, community and environment
- Empirical research elucidating CSR issues and discussing their theoretical implications
More specific topics may include, although are not limited to:
- Global business and its relationship with stakeholders
- Global business and its negative environmental impacts
- Global management and local human and civil rights issues, including child and forced labour, prostitution, migration and working conditions, product sourcing and purchase arrangements

Special issue on "Business and the natural environment in Asia"
For publication: December 2009
Submission deadline: December 2008
Can business studies engage more proactively on environmental issues, philosophically, theoretically and ethically?
Environmental issues are serious concerns for both present and future generations. Global corporations, directly or indirectly, internally or externally, are a major contemporary influence on the way we live on this planet and can be seen to play a significant role in the creation of such concerns. However, business and management studies have made limited contribution towards clarifying the interplay and meaning between business activity and natural environments. This special issue aims to address this lacuna of academic attention by inviting innovative theoretical/conceptual studies, as well as concrete empirical studies, focused upon the impacts of business/management attitudes and activities upon the environment in Asia. Some possible topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
Scope of papers
- Theoretical and/or perspective papers, including philosophical and ecological approaches which may contribute to our general knowledge, perspectives and values
- Papers exploring the interplay between business activities and current environmental issues like global warming, water/air pollution, power generation, chemical and biological devices, health and welfare, resource sustainability, wildlife habitats and other related issues in Asia
- Corporate activities aimed at improving environmental impacts, such as new technologies, product developments and recycling businesses in Asia
- Corporate governance and its effects on environmental problems in Asia
- Civil movements, including trade unions, NGOs, co-operatives, etc, which seek to influence corporate activities to minimize environmental problems in Asia
Publication plan and procedures:
- Papers will be published as a special issue of ABM in December 2009
- Quality papers not published in a special issue will be considered for an edited volume from Palgrave Macmillan Asian Business Series
- Deadline for papers: December 2008
- All papers should conform to the ABM journal format visit http://www.palgrave-journals.com/abm/author_instructions.html for details.
