Ludwig Bstieler is Associate Professor of Marketing at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics of the University of New Hampshire, USA. His research interests include the formation, management and outcomes of close buyer–supplier relationships in industrial new product development and the impact of perceived environmental uncertainties on product innovation. His research has been published in the Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, and Journal of World Business. He was previously Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, a visiting lecturer and scholar at MIT's Sloan School of Management, and a visiting lecturer at the Michael DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.
Axèle Giroud is Senior Lecturer in International Business at Manchester Business School, UK. Her research focuses on MNE activities in Asia and their impact on economic development, with particular attention to inter-firm knowledge transfer in the context of MNE linkages with indigenous firms. She has conducted a number of research projects, notably for UNCTAD, ASEAN Secretariat, JBIC (Japan) and DFID, and published numerous journal articles, book chapters and two books, including Transnational Corporations, Technology and Economic Development (Edward Elgar, 2003) and Multinationals in Asia (Routledge, 2005).
Martin Hemmert is Associate Professor of International Business at Korea University Business School, Seoul. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cologne and his Habilitation in business from the University of Duisburg-Essen. Previously, he has held research and teaching positions at the Universities of Cologne, Hitotsubashi, DIJ Tokyo, Duisburg-Essen and Singapore. His research interests include strategic innovation management, innovation systems, organizational boundaries of firms and cross-cultural management. He has published five books and numerous articles in journals such as Industrial and Corporate Change, Research Policy, Management International Review, Asian Business & Management, Journal of World Business and Journal of Engineering and Technology Management.
Chie Iguchi is Associate Professor of International Business at Ritsumeikan University College of Business Administration, Japan. She received her Ph.D. in international business from the University of Reading. Her recent research interests are the roles of TNC subsidiaries in technological development in East and South-East Asia, the economics of knowledge creation and technology transfer, and the roles of local suppliers on national innovation systems in host developing countries. Her recent publications include 'Multinationals and their relationships with local suppliers: Effects on local suppliers' development path in the Malaysian electrical and electronics industry' (co-authored with John Cantwell), in A. Giroud et al. (eds.), Multinationals and Asia (Routledge, 2005).
Anders Jakobsson is currently Group Treasurer and Group Risk Manager at Sveaskog AB in Sweden. He graduated in Business and Administration from the University of Linköping and received an Executive MBA from Stockholm University School of Business. He has held several positions in international banking and previously held leading treasury positions within Swedish multinational companies such as Vattenfall and AssiDomän.
Hendrik Meyer-Ohle is Associate Professor of Japanese Business in the Department of Japanese Studies at the National University of Singapore. He received his Ph.D. from Philipps University Marburg. He previously worked for the German Institute of Japanese Studies in Tokyo and the Japan Centre of Philipps University Marburg. His main research interests are in the area of Japanese consumer goods distribution, but he is also interested in the international activities of Japanese companies in Asia and HRM in Japan. His publications include Innovation and Dynamics in Japanese Retailing — From Techniques to Formats to Systems (Palgrave Macmillan, 2003) and as co-editor (with Jochen Legewie) Corporate Strategies for Southeast Asia after the Crisis (Palgrave Macmillan 2000).
Hafiz Mirza is Chief of Development Issues at UNCTAD and Professor of International Business at Bradford University, UK. At UNCTAD, apart from working on the World Investment Report, he is responsible for a range of research projects related to FDI, MNEs and Development. His published research topics have included developing-country multinationals; Japanese management and international political economy; international technology transfer; and the strategy of TNCs in ASEAN. He has headed many research projects funded by institutions such as the British Department for International Development (DfID), ASEAN Secretariat, European Union and Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). He is President of the Euro-Asia Management Studies Association (EAMSA) and Editor of the RoutledgeCurzon 'International Business in Asia' series.
Byung Il Park took his Ph.D. in International Business and Strategy at Bradford University, UK, and is Associate Lecturer at the School of Management there. His research currently focuses on knowledge acquisition and performance in international joint ventures. His research interests include mergers and acquisitions, absorptive capacity, corporate strategy and foreign direct investment in financial industries. He has co-authored a number of conference papers in international business.
Jay Hyuk Rhee is Associate Professor of International Business/Strategy at Korea University Business School. He received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Before joining Korea University, he was an assistant professor at San Jose State University. His current research interests include the strategic management and international expansion processes of multinational firms, global entrepreneurship and e-commerce strategy. His articles have appeared in a number of journals, including Long Range Planning, Management International Review, Journal of Business and Management, New England Journal of Entrepreneurship and Journal of E-Business.
Sten Söderman is Professor of International Business at Stockholm University School of Business and Visiting Professor at the University of Luxembourg. He has authored or edited 17 books and a number of case studies and articles, the most recent (with Robert Demir) being 'Skills and Complexity in Management of IJVs: Exploring Swedish Manager
Experiences in China', International Business Review 16: 2007. His books include Industrial Location Planning (Wiley, 1975) and most recently he edited Emerging Multiplicity-Integration and Responsiveness in Asian Business Development (Palgrave Macmillan, 2006). In Swedish he has published Handbook for Exporters and Business Development, with examples from H&M, IKEA, ABB and Volvo.
Luis Soler is a senior sales and marketing executive at Saab AB. He has an M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, and an Executive MBA from Stockholm University. He has held several positions within international sales and business development within Swedish industrial companies. He has worked for smaller and larger Swedish multinational companies, such as Atlas Copco, Ericsson and the Saab Group.
Jeryl Whitelock is Professor of International Marketing and Head of Marketing Group at Bradford University, UK. She is editor of the International Marketing Review and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Marketing Communications and Journal of Cross-Cultural Competence and Management. Her research interests include internationalization and globalization, international market entry strategy, international and global advertising and branding and international product management and mass customization. She has published in such journals as the Journal of International Marketing, European Journal of Marketing and International Marketing Review.
Jie Yu graduated with an MA from the Department of Japanese Studies at the National University of Singapore in 2007. She also holds a BA in Japanese Language and Culture from Tianjin Nankai University (2001). Before resuming her studies in Singapore, she worked for two Japanese companies in China, and is currently working for a telecommunications company in Singapore.
