This year, the Editors of British Politics are launching a Research Student Competition designed to promote and highlight leading future scholarship from the next generation of researchers into the field of UK politics. The competition is open to research students working on any aspect of British politics (comparative or otherwise). Those wishing to enter should submit a short article, of no more than 5,000 words in length, highlighting key findings or themes from their current research. The two best articles will be published in the 2009 volume of British Politics. The winners will also receive financial support to cover fees and travel expenses plus £100 for subsistence to any conference event or workshop of their choice within the UK. The competition is open to all MPhil and PhD students, and the closing date is 31 December 2008. For guidelines on the submission of articles please see: www.palgrave-journals.com/bp/author_instructions.html

Beginning in 2008, a new section, 'Beyond the Mainstream', will cover interesting, less mainstream subjects. Forthcoming issues will feature papers on animal rights, gun crime, sexuality and CCTV.
