The Contributors

Michael L. Barnett is an assistant professor of Strategic Management in the Department of Management and Organization at the College of Business at the University of South Florida. In his research, Mike seeks to enhance understanding of the influence of cognitive, communal and reputational mechanisms on the social, environmental and economic decisions that managers make and the outcomes for firms, industries and stakeholders over time. His work has been published in myriad scholarly journals, to include Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Management Studies.

Stephanie Bertels is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Stephanie's research examines how institutional processes constrain or advance the transition towards sustainability and how organizations collaborate to develop and implement innovative strategies to pursue a sustainable future.

Alex Bitektine holds a managerial position in business intelligence in pharmaceutical industry (US and Canada). He is also completing a PhD program in Strategy and Business Policy at McGill University. He holds an MBA from McGill University and MA in Linguistics from Moscow State University. His academic research is focused on exploration of intangible organizational resources, such as legitimacy, reputation, status, social capital, etc from the perspective of institutional theory, organizational ecology, social networks and corporate communications.

Sheila Goins is a visiting assistant professor in the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. Her research interests include networks, social structure, healthcare and economic sociology. She has a Masters in Health Policy and Management from Harvard School of Public Health and an MBA and PhD in Organizational Theory and Strategy from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Thomas S. Gruca is the Henry B. Tippie Research Professor of Marketing in the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. His previous research has appeared in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science and Strategic Management Journal. His current research interests include marketing strategy, healthcare and the interface of marketing and finance. Tim Hargrave is Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, Bothell. His research focuses on the mutual influence of institutions and organizations. He is especially interested in understanding change in organizational beliefs and practices related to social and environmental issues. Dr Hargrave earned his PhD from the University of Minnesota, and he holds an MA in Energy and Resources, an MBA, and a BS degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to coming to academe, Dr Hargrave worked on global climate change policy.

Andrew (Andy) J. Hoffman is the Holcim (US) Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan; a position that holds joint appointments at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the School of Natural Resources & Environment. Within this role, Andy also serves as Associate Director of the Frederick A. and Barbara M. Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise. Andy has published five books and over 50 articles/book chapters on environmental and social issues as they relate to business. Prior to academics, Andy worked for the US Environmental Protection Agency (Region 1), Metcalf & Eddy Environmental Consultants, T&T Construction & Design and the Amoco Corporation. Andy serves on advisory boards of the Oakwood Healthcare System, University of Michigan Museum of Art, Earth Portal, Center for Environmental Innovation and Canopy Partnership, as well as the editorial board of Organization & Environment.

Richard H. Lester is a clinical associate professor and Director of Academic Entrepreneurship programs at Texas A&M University. He received his PhD degree in Strategic Management from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M. His current research interests focus on corporate governance, upper echelons and entrepreneurship.

Patricia MacDonald is a doctoral candidate in the General Management program of the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario. Her research interests include inter-organizational conflict and the nature and dynamics of change within institutional systems. She holds an MA in organizational conflict from Royal Roads University and an MBA from Ivey.

Sergey E. Osadchiy is currently a PhD candidate at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research focuses on the role of formal rule-based organizational structures in development and maintenance of organizational memory, as well as on the broader question of why and under which conditions such formal structures may persist in organizational fields.

John Peloza is Assistant Professor of Marketing at the School of Business Administration, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC, Canada. John's research interest is in the area of corporate social responsibility. His work has been published in California Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing and Journal of Nonprofit & Public Sector Marketing.

Monika I. Winn is an associate professor of Business Strategy and Sustainability at the University of Victoria. Her research focuses on organizational and institutional change associated with sustainability challenges and climate change. She received her PhD from the University of California at Irvine. She has published research in the Academy of Management Review, the Journal of Management Inquiry and Business & Society, among others.

Tieying Yu is an assistant professor at Boston College. She received her PhD from Texas A&M University. Her research interests focus on global strategy and competition, competitive dynamics and competitor analysis.

Charlene Zietsma is an assistant professor of Strategy at the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario. Her research interests focus on stakeholder conflict situations and their implications for institutional change. She holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia. She has published research in Organization Science, the Journal of Business Venturing, Business & Society and the British Journal of Management, among others.
