The Old and the New: Dialectics around the Social Forum Process
Peter Waterman
Abstract
Peter Waterman argues that while 'new social movements' are now old hat, the global justice and solidarity movement is new as is 'global solidarity'. He looks at the contribution of the Social Forum process in building new ways to confront globalized/networked/informatized/financial and services capitalism (GNC) through processes that challenge the 'old left'. He asks that we go beyond thinking in binaries and instead develop a logic that can handle the increasingly complex reality in which emancipatory movements operate.
Keywords:
globalized networked capitalism, dialogue, emancipatory movement, Manichean opposition, alliances
