Abstract

Andy Higginbottom argues that in Colombia neo-liberal globalization has taken on certain peculiarities fueling the violent conflict. He suggests that the propertied classes have benefited from economic and social violations against the civilian population, especially from the dispossession of the peasantry. This is how the state is laying the grounds for a new export-led growth project implemented through a highly authoritarian regime. He argues that Colombia foreshadows the authoritarianism-with-exports model of a post 9/11 neo-conservative security regime.
