Abstract

In Darfur, CHF International is working to help alleviate the victim mindset and resulting dependency when traumatized people are displaced to refugee camps. Judith A. Hermanson suggests that despite many challenges, non-governmental organizations like CHF have found ways to assist those seen and treated as 'victims' to become 'survivors', – to learn new skills, to generate income, to contribute to the local economy and to look more hopefully to the future.
