  4. On 14 December 2012, a young female student, Jyoti Singh Pandey, was raped and fatally injured on a bus hijacked by six men in Delhi. Her male friend, who was with her at a time, survived, but she died in hospital a few days later. The incident was followed by massive protests and media attention.
