The Selling of HRT: Playing on the Fear Factor

Nancy Worcester and Mariamne H. Whatley teach women's health courses in the Women's Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and are editors of Women's Health: Readings on Social, Economic and Political Issues.

Nancy was a founding member of the Women's Health Information Centre in London and has been on the National Women's Health Network Board since 1986. She is the Women's Studies Outreach Specialist for UW-Madison.

Mariamne is associate chair of the UW-Madison Women's Studies Program and directs the Health Education Program for UW-Madison Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

The authors want to acknowledge the work of the National Women's Health Network's Hormone Education Campaign in providing the key leadership for US women in the evaluation and critique of menopausal hormones. The excellent publications and testimonies before Food and Drug Administration Committees have been extremely valuable in preparing this paper. Taking Hormones and Women's Health is available for $5 (+ postage) from the National Women's Health Network, 1325 G Street, N.W., Washington DC, 20005 USA.
