Sexuality in Lesbian Romance Fiction

Joke Hermes has a degree in political science. She teaches cultural media studies at the University of Amsterdam and is one of the editors of the Dutch Journal of Women's Studies, Tijdschrift voor Vrouwenstudies. Her publications are on the subject of feminist theory and romantic fiction and on reading feminist magazines. She is preparing a book about women's magazines based on interviews with readers.

I would like to thank Mieke Aerts, Ien Ang, Mariette van Staveren and Liesbet van Zoonen for discussing romances with me as well as earlier versions of this paper.
