Psychoanalysis: Psychic Law and Order?

Elizabeth Wilson has been active in the women's movement since 1970. She teaches at the Polytechnic of North London, and has published two books, Women and the Welfare State, and Only Halfway to Paradise: Women in Britain 1945-68. A third book, Mirror Writing, is to be published by Virago in 1982, which will deal in a more autobiographical vein with psychoanalysis, amongst other things.

Thanks to those who read and commented on this article for me when it was in draft form: Angie Mason, Julia Naish, Marie Zaphiriou, Maxine Molyneux, Michele Barrett, Victoria Greenwood and Wendy Hollway.
