Introduction
The aim of Higher Education Policy is to provide a peer-reviewed vehicle of the highest quality for institutional leadership, scholars, practitioners and administrators at all levels of higher education to have access to, keep abreast of, and contribute to, the most advanced analyses available in this domain.
"Higher Education Policy is a unique journal. It combines academic excellence with a participation of the world community of higher education, as is appropriate for a publication of IAU, a worldwide organisation of universities with UNESCO support. This makes Higher Education Policy essential reading for higher education researchers, for institutional leaders and policy makers, as well as for all those academics and students who share an interest in higher education policies across the world."
Alberto Amaral, Former Rector, University of Porto, Portugal
President of the Consortium of Higher Education Researchers, Kassel, Germany

IAU - Palgrave Macmillan Prize in Higher Education Policy Research
The IAU, in conjunction with Palgrave Macmillan, the publisher of the Association's research and reference publications, is pleased to announce the winner of the IAU - Palgrave Macmillan Prize in Higher Education Policy Research. The 2009 competition was on the theme Equitable Access, Success and Quality - three essential ingredients or three mutually exclusive concepts for higher education development? The jury nominated Jennifer M. Gidley, Gary P. Hampson, Leone Wheeler and Elleni Bereded-Samuel of RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia for their entry entitled From Access to Success: An Integrated Approach to Quality Higher Education informed by Social Inclusion Theory and Practice.
The winning entry will be published in Higher Education Policy in 2010 and will also appear in full on the Journal's website when released.
On behalf of Palgrave Macmillan and the jury, and all at IAU, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participated in the competition, and to wish them all the very best as they continue their work and research in higher education.
