2009 MEL Best Paper Prize
At the recent International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) conference in Copenhagen, Jo Reynaerts of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven won the Palgrave Macmillan Maritime Economics & Logistics (MEL) Best Paper Prize for his paper ‘Simulating Mergers between Stevedores.’ This paper will be published in a MEL special issue. Palgrave Macmillan and MEL warmly congratulates him on his success.
Operations Research methods in maritime transport and freight logistics
The first issue of Volume 11 contains a series of papers addressing the use of operations research methods in maritime transport and freight logistics. It is not a surprise that maritime logistics – a central tenet of this Journal – is advancing, given the value of OR and management science in aiding our understanding of the remarkable recent growth in container transportation, vessel sizes and port operations.
3rd MEL PhD Competition (2005 - 2008)
On the 24th of November 2008 the Award Ceremony for the 3rd MEL PhD Competition was held at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The MEL PhD Competition organized by MEL and Palgrave Macmillan aims at promoting research excellence in the field of Maritime Economics and Logistics, and, in its 3rd Edition invited submissions from PhD researchers who defended their thesis between 2005 and 2008.
The first prize, awarded by Palgrave Macmillan, went to Dr. Andrew GRAINGER, for the thesis “Trade Facilitation and Supply Chain Management: A Case Study at the Interface between Business and Government”. We congratulate Dr Grainger on this achievement.
International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) 2008 Conference, Dalian, China
Maritime Economics & Logistics was the sponsor of the BEST PAPER AWARD at the 2008 IAME conference. We’re delighted to announce that the award was presented to A.A. Pallis, T.E.Notteboom and P.W.De Langen for their paper ‘Concession Agreements, Capabilities and Market Entry’. The paper will appear in a forthcoming issue of Maritime Economics & Logistics, together with other prominent papers from the meeting.
