First Person publishes narratives in which scholars address personal experience of relevance to organization and management research and teaching. Authors are expected to draw on theory as it pertains to their experiences, to consider their experiences reflexively, and to discuss them with respect to their impact on aspects of academic or organizational life. In other words, we expect First Person material to both tell the author's story and consider its relevance to scholarship and organization more broadly. Examples of approaches to First Person accounts include, but are not limited to:
- Introspective accounts of research and teaching that embody notions of reflexivity (rather than simply assert its relevance)
- Autoethnography - theorised writing based on personal experience with aspects of the topic of inquiry
- Autobiographical methods through which authors reflexively engage with a topic and/or research participants
- First person action inquiry or dialogic inquiry into management and organization topics
- Representations of 'learning moments' within teaching, research, or service activities that link personal learning to scholarship in a manner of interest to others in the academic community
Authors wishing to submit manuscripts to this section should think about relevant and insightful experiences of their own. Their article should share the context as well as the feelings and thoughts of the author and try to bring the reader into the experience.
If you are thinking of writing for this section, but unsure of what will be appropriate, please contact either of the section editors for a pre-submission discussion of ideas and form.
