Abstract
In order to appreciate the experience of being on the wrong side of sexuality's normative/non-normative divide, it is crucial to consider the impact of the social on the psychic. Male same-sex desire is used to illustrate the interactions between cultural imperatives and lived experience that can produce psychic dissonance and shame in the desiring subject.
